The Virtual Repository is maintained by Galson Sciences Ltd

The Virtual Repository is now the prime source for independent information on international radioactive waste management. Many people interested in international radioactive waste management issues have come to regard this site as a reliable source of accurate, unbiased information.

These public pages provide part of the backbone to popular listing sites such as the excellent radwaste.org which collates thousands of website addresses but no actual information. That is where the Virtual Repository comes in!

The site is now operated primarily on a subscription basis, to support us to maintain this reputation. Subscriptions are available for specialists and interested members of the public alike, with current subscribers including government advisory bodies in Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as waste management companies, members of national regulatory bodies and local governments as far apart as Europe and Australia. Click here to see what you're missing.

If you belong to a similar organisation, can you afford to be left behind? Why not join the growing group of subscribers? Why spend your valuable time trying to keep up with international developments when we can do it for you?

You can view an example page to get an idea of the kind of information you will have access to when you subscribe. You can also see details of breaking news stories, although you'll have to find the links and documents yourself; they are only provided to subscribers. On this part of the site you can also view short overviews of national programmes but, again, these are not kept as closely updated as those available to subscribers.

Why?

Because to do so takes time, effort, and a network of contacts that has taken over 17 years to develop. You can benefit from it by becoming a subscriber .

The subscription part of the site now includes some additional information on remediation and cleanup of nuclear-contaminated sites, as well as descriptions of Natural Analogues and background on their use in performance assessment exercises.

Information is obtained from various sources, including technical reports, papers, conference proceedings and public documents, as well as personal contacts and conversations. Material is checked with individuals active in the relevant national programmes, and includes comment from all sides of the discussion.

As a subscriber, once you have received your username and personal password, you can access and view information at your leisure. The stand-alone national waste management programmatic descriptions and reviews place new developments and siting initiatives in the relevant technical and social context. Subscribers also have access to general information and photographs of operating facilities, often presented as catalogued lists of links to relevant locations elsewhere and sometimes as documents and images for immediate downloading. In some cases diagrams and graphical presentations, where relevant, are also available, all of which may be of use to public outreach programmes.

If you work for an organisation involved in any aspect of radioactive waste management, and want to increase your level of external communication, get in touch and we can discuss ways to help you disseminate your information. We are keen to provide an open and transparent forum for discussion of this important issue.

The most detailed and up-to-the-minute information will now therefore only be available to subscribers, who can 'mine' into the database, and access information as required. This is to enable us to provide a more comprehensive service tailored to the needs of users, whilst being supported for the effort involved.

In this public access part of the Virtual Repository we provide summary documents as information for non-subscribers. Use the links to the left to see information on national radwaste management programmes, upcoming conferences and links to other useful sites. If you are organising an event, and would like to advertise it on the Virtual Repository, let us know the details. Similarly, if you want to advertise your site, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

You can also catch up with the latest news in the world of radwaste. The Virtual Repository is the only website that provides details of news stories that are not almost exclusively US-focussed. For subscribers, links are provided to the original stories so you can read them for yourself, without having to trawl through vast amounts of useless information.

The Virtual Repository is designed to be an organic information source, continuously growing, and offers subscribers detailed information as stand-alone national programmatic outlines with up-to-the-minute details of developing issues. There are also links to the latest technical reports (where available as open-files) and to sources of up-to-the-minute breaking news.
